Who runs The Helpline?

The staff who answer the phone calls are permanently employed counsellors who continually receive professional training and guidance. The staff have a duty of confidentiality, which means that they can only disclose your personal information to third parties with your consent, or if there is an immediate risk of someone being harmed. The staff speak Norwegian. Help is also available in English.

You can call The Helpline from abroad

116 123 is a joint European Helpline number. This means that by calling this number within the EU/EEA, you will be connected to the help service in the country you are currently in. If you are abroad, but want to ring the Helpline in Norway, you must call 00 47 91 116 123. Ordinary mobile rates for your subscription will then apply.

If you would prefer to write to a counsellor rather than calling, you can use The Helpline’s online service sidetmedord.no. The service is free, and you will receive a response within 48 hours.

The Helpline is operated by the organisation Mental Helse and is funded by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
