The staff who man the phones are permanently employed counsellors who receive professional training and guidance. The staff have a duty of confidentiality and are therefore not allowed to share any information about you with others without your consent, or if there is a risk to life and health. The staff speak Norwegian. Help can also be offered in English.
116 123 is a joint European Helpline number. This means that by ringing this number within the EU/EEA, you will be connected to the help service in the country you are currently in. If you are abroad, but want to ring the Hjelpetelefonen in Norway, you must call 0047 91 116 123. Ordinary mobile rates for your subscription will then apply.
If you would prefer to write to a counsellor rather than calling, you can use the Hjelpetelefonen’s online service sidetmedord.no. The service is free, and you will receive a response within 48 hours.
Hjelpetelefonen is operated by the organisation Mental Helse and is funded by the Norwegian Directorate of Health.
